Anthropogenic artefact found on the southern shore of Örö (2020)

When I was walking the shore towards the island’s southern tip I came across a dead seal. It felt like a sign to not continue any further, which I respected and headed north. Soon, at the edge of a small bay, I noticed a neon colored object glowing on the rocks. On closer inspection it turned out to be an abandoned construction jacket, a fitting symbol for the anthropogenic pressure Örö is under. Agriculture, military use and tourism have all left their mark on the island – and so has the sea.
